Wake Me When The Lilacs Bloom

This contempary piece illustrates the long anticipated wait for the winter to end so the island can wake up to a new season. The long Mackinac Islnad winters can be brutely hard if you're not ready for whats to come, ice storms, high winds, artic temperatures, power outages, dangerous travel, and even stranded on or off the island for days or weeks to name a few of the physical elements.

The artist interpatation of the photo is a deep winter sleep as your tired out of focus eyes only need to open up enough to know winter is still here. The mental toll the winter has taken on you makes you want to go back to sleep until the lilacs bloom in early June. The winter boat Huron is heading back to the main land (going back to sleep) and there is no knowing if the boat will return for its next schedule trip because Mother Nature may have plans that will interupt the commuter’s plan. This is just another reason to go back to sleep until the weather fosters temperatures allowing the lilac to bloom and the sent of the lilac becoming your alarm clock.

This is life's biggest decision, do you sleepwalk through life only to wake for the good moments or do you walk through life consciously observing the good, the bad , and the between moments that makes good times that much better and the discovery of life’s hidden gems.
